Peter Pictou and his wife Marianne live in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia running a small business out of their home. Artisans and craftspeople themselves they travel from craftshow to craftshow to sell and buy crafts.

Peter makes drums and baskets himself but since he came to work with the gallery, he now focuses on getting other craftsmen and -women and artisans to work through him as an agent. Grown up in the area he knows many artists and artisans and tries to help them to get their art and crafts to a public forum.

He sees in this gallery an excellent platform to promote Mi'kmaq culture, heritage and history. Most of the crafts one can find on this website are made by various craftspeople from all over Nova Scotia.

"Once you are in basket collecting, it will become an obsession" he states encouraging basket weavers to pass on their knowledge to the next generations, so this beautiful skill won't be lost for ever.

Marianne is an artisan in painting and small crafts. Currently working on her business degree she knows how important quality is. "The beauty of an art piece is one aspect, the other is the level of craftmanship and care one puts into a piece of art."

"If we can help others to become artists and artisans on a full-time basis - what better way to serve our own nation and culture"
